Not sure why they don't use white as the base color though. Like these!

The last two are good 'ol Hoss from Bonanza as the celebrity (Lorne Greene was there too that year) and Johnny Carson behind the wheel.

67 used white/blue, 69 was white with orange.

I'm digging the white on orange of the new one. Shows better in color pics where the old worked well in the B&W pics of "old".

Looking back at my old pic of the Camaro leading 4 Indy cars, I decided to try to figure out who they are. Here is the info on the 67 Race, Mario qualified on the pole, A.J. won. (back in the days when drivers only needed one name to be household personalities) The white car with little front winglets should be Mario.

Also note there were 63 qualifying attempts!

Gas turbined-'STP Oil Treatment Special'.This was the first Indianapolis 500 to be televised in color by ABC during ABC's Wide World of Sports.
Andy Granatelli, the CEO of STP, introduced the first turbine-powered car into the Indianapolis 500.

The shot above must be on a restart, as the cars are not in qualifying order. The race took 2 days in 67.

Man, Bill those are some cool pictures. Rumor has it they considered the white with orange stripes and settled on the orange with white. The new pace car is on display at the museum currently. Saw that on the news the other night.

Thought the Camaro pace car was a nice touch for this thread. The rest is some great eye candy. My old CT 400s is there along with several significant race winners, factory prototypes, low mile time warpers, etc...

I thought that was your Countach. How many others did I guess right?

It's sat there since he bought it and I check in every 6 months or so. It has only gone 5 miles since I had it! He's not selling anytime soon.
Fortunately it is in real good hands and I am happy it's where it is.

Back on the Pace Cars, the white 67 in that garage shot above is a 396 4 speed car. Original drivetrain, California car with all smog stuff intact. A very rare find.

Those 396 Camaros were fast but nose heavy and traction was a problem. Fastest Camaros I ever raced were the 302's.

Maybe this pic will come out better.

You forgot the real GT-40.

Black car against the wall is a 1938 Bentley.

The car between the Boxer and Countach is a Lamborghini Espada.

The race car in the ceiling is a 59 Stanguellini Formula Junior. Fiat 4 banger for power.

Pic of a Cobra. Which incidentally is a for real aluminum bodied 427 car. Original unrestored, being prepared for Pebble Beach this year.

Funny thing on the 67 Camaro Pace Car, the guy wanted it, but had to buy a whole Camaro/Firebird collection to get the one big block stick car he wanted.
