Getting closer now....My R8 is on ship #400, Athens Highway. Left Emden Germany on June 19. Scheduled to dock in Davisville RI on Tuesday the 29th. Hopefully through customs, final inspection, and delivered within 4 weeks. Going to be a nice delivery at the end of summer; just in time for the an autumn driving season

That is really great how detailed your delivery is. Import documentation on an old Lamorghini is priceless these days. You may be doing a great favor for some 10 year old kid who buys your car in 30 years! Try to find someone to shoot pictures all along the way for you.

What color and options?
Pictures would be a nice touch, but I have no way of contacting the ship or anyone else for that matter when the ship docks in Davisville. I am at the mercy of the Audi import and transport squad.
5.2 V10, 6 spd man, Ibis White, Tuscan Brown int, Carbon Fiber int pkg, Carbon Fiber Mirrors, Illuminated Door sills, Alcantara headliner, and the rest of the standard goodies.
It will be nice to get together with everyone in the fall at some point to get in some drive time. That is what this car lust/hobby is about, correct?? Now if I could just convince the wife that an off-site garage is a good idea....

Sounds like a looker.
I'm getting a drive together for the SW corner of the state for late July or early August. Hope to see ya there!
question Ive always wondered, why would you buy an R8 when you can get a used Gallardo for the same or less??....and its faster and a Lambo
unless you just prefer it astethicly or want a warrenty??
Yes I actually do prefer the R8 in an aesthetic sense as well as in its civility as a potential daily driver. Lambo's, Ferrari's, and the like are all stunning, mechanically brilliant, and snap necks as you drive by at cruising speeds. My choice came down to personal preference, and honestly what car I can comfortably fit into; both personality wise and size. Large mammal I am. And I could not purchase a used car with good conscience; at least not at the caliber of cars like the Gallardo.
Land ho!! Ten day journey almost complete. Athens Highway is off the coast of Rhode Island Davisville port. Scheduled to dock tomorrow. I suppose if luck went my way it actually could be mine on my birthday at the end of July. Nice present. Of course the dealer would take responsibility for such perfect timing.....will post pictures as soon as the car arrives in Indy.
Argh!! Just got finished with talking to my dealer friend.....my car was scheduled to be released on July 6th for delivery on the 12th, or after. Life was good. Audi corporate squashed that idea; because the car is an 2011; Audi will not release the car for delivery until sometime in August when their next model year is 'supposed' to begin. Bastards. Dealer says that their is nothing that he could do. Of course I said give me the Porsche Turbo that you are driving as a loner....needless to say he just didn't reply.

Will the dealer then maintain custody and keep it under wraps until such time that it's made official by corporate?

As far as I know the car will stay in Davisville in all it's bubble-wrapped glory until it gets shipped. I have an acquaintence from Michigan who also has a car that was shipped on the same boat and was told next week delivery as well. I am awaiting info back from him to see if his situation is the same as mine. Frustration builds to no avail; instead of releasing it through the wonderment of a snarling sonorous V10, I suppose a Dos Equis will have to do
Flying home next week to pick the car up on or after July 21st. Audi released the car and it was loaded on the transport July 12. I missed the Freetown/Brown County drive; hopefully I won't miss another one. Will post pics when the car is finally home.
It will all be over soon. Worth the wait. Going to drive it back down to Florida to finish my vacation. I suggested the wife and kids drive back down in a friends mini-van....she agreed. I should probably get her some flowers for that one.
Had the opportunity to meet one of the clubs members yesterday as well when I was picking up the car. Thanks again to Andrew and his red Z06 for the well wishes and congratulations.
...first drive yesterday was nothing less than euphoric...
