Yes, a lift is in the works. 16ft ceilings give me clearance to park my SUV under the car. It will happen after my return from Florida. Just need to do a little more research on brand of lift. If anyone has any first hand experience or info I would gladly accept. I hope to meet everyone soon.

Called them up and will be using their services soon enough. Took measurements for the lift, CL 8,000 CSP XLT....and of course my normal garage opener is just enough in the way to make me flinch. Cleared it by a handful of inches. Not good enough. So now I should have a quote coming in this week on moving and changing the config on the opener and track system: LiftMaster 3800 Residential Jackshaft Garage Door Opener, and then raising the track up to the ceiling to allow for completely free airspace around the car. Will post pics in a few weeks when everything is complete.

Garage Door installation complete. Huge difference in the volume of the space. Can't say enough positive things about this Jackshaft opener. Simple thing, but sometimes details make the difference. Quiet and quick/easy to program. No climbing ladders anymore. I should have installed these years ago. Thanks to Midwest Garage Doors for the install.
Car lift order was placed a couple minutes ago. Should be in and installed next week.
You'll need to upgrade your floor now to go with that new car and lift.
Here's my "before" and "after" shots. Still need to get a lift, though.
Very nice and clean. You are 100% correct about getting the floor done. Unfortunately I have shaken the money tree a little too much this year. The floors will have to wait. If I spend another cent I think my wife will have a conniption. Somehow my passions and needs do not equate to hers of romance novels and elliptical machines. Do you have any recommendations for a reputable company when it is time to redo my floor? Nothing says Happy Valentines Day than a new coating on the garage floor.
Here are a couple pictures of my buddies lift that I use to change my oil!
That's excellent, it's great that you have access to be able to work on your ride. Size is good as well. My neighbor has some mustangs and has a lift that size. I wish I could get away with something like that. My kids need to hurry up and either get out of sports or not have as many friends so I can downsize to a reasonably sized car.

6 hour install, a few headaches with a supervisor from Complete Hydraulics, and I think I am finally done with the garage....at least until the flooring gets done. Now back to the search for a helmet!!
Clearances are snug. As it stands I have 1.5" to play with. I can raise the lift off the locks to 81" which gives ample room to drive under and then set it back down on the top lock which lets the bottom of the lift sit at 79.5". Now that I've backed in and out a couple times I am comfortable without having to move the lift up. The first time under was absolutely unnerving. The tech who installed it was making fun of me for my disbelief that it would fit. Lifting the Infiniti up was also a weird feeling....big heavy SUV, little tiny legs.
Regarding the underside of the R8, very odd the combination of metal, cheap plastic, and how much of the engine hangs just enough through the opening. I need to locate an engine diagram.
depending on how long the mounting bolts are, I guess you could always add a thick piecce of plate steel between the floor and the lift mounting plate. As long as it is larger in dimensions, you should be fine. Obviously check with the manf prior to doing so.
